Permission For Filming

As we needed permission to film at our chosen location, I decided to phone and email the person in charge to ask if we could film in the shopping centre. We needed to ensure in the letter that the filming was just for educational purposes and would not be broadcast.

Filming The Dancer

Today we filmed the dancer of Jordan at the studio. Because my group viewed the studio earlier we knew what props we needed in order to make the filming easier and function better. Jessica brought in her CD player and we borrowed a laptop and two cameras from the media department.

The filming was a success; we started filming at 1.30 and finished 3.30. As we had booked the studio for three hours, it allowed us to look through our filming to see what shots we needed. The week before, when we had checked out the studio, we had the choice to work with the black background, which unfortunately was a wall or a white background. We chose the white background as this looked more professional.

Pictures taken in studio (Meeting)

Today, after lesson, my group decided to have a group meeting and take pictures of the studio. The studio is a very important location for our music video. This is because; the dancer will be filmed in the studio. We needed to study the size of the studio to see if it was suitable to film in. we discovered that the studio was large enough to film in. we studied the equipment in the studio. However we were not allowed to use the equipment’s of the filming. This did not matter, as we were taught how to use the equipment last year in our AS level of media studies. I acted as the ‘model’ and we role played that I was the dancer; we discovered that in order for our filming techniques to look flawless we had to use the gold and silver screens. The gold screen allowed me to look golden. However, we were unable to find the silver screen as we only had a couple of minutes to take pictures. By taking pictures in the studio, this mentally prepared us of how the music video will be set out in our heads. We were able to understand that we will have to bring our own props of clothing. As the rapper is a male, we won’t need to apply make up to him, but preferably the gold screen, for a glow appearance. Luckily, we have a music player in the studio, therefore now we know that we have to put the original song ‘role models’ onto a CD.

Final Cut Pro

Today our group was set a task in the editing suite. The task was to watch a short film which had been dismantled. Our task was to improve the short film to make it more understandable. This task taught us how to edit, this is important, because in our music video we will have to edit. Our group also learned how to change the settings, which was the lighting of the short film.

Every group of the class had to present their short film to the class. This helped, as it allowed me to feel confident about how to edit on ‘final cut pro’.

Targets (Meeting)

Today, we printed out the release forms for both the actors and locations. Our target before Monday 15th is to phone up Westfield and provide them with our risk assessments. We also have to finish off our storyboards, this is so all the planning and research will be finished in time for filming. We have to also do the rece, so that we have visual pictures of where we will be filming in Westfield and the camera types which we will choose to use in the music video.

Previous Ideas

Before we came up with the initial idea of the music video. We planned to film outside my house. However our concept has now changed as we are no longer filming outside the house. This is because we are filming inside the house and in Westfield. Now, we are thinking to make the whole video a dream.

Today, we worked in group to share ideas on how the story board would be planned out. This was useful by planning and having ideas about how the music video will be planned out. We used the music to decide what will happen, shot by shot and the timings of each.

Planning Auditions (Meeting)

Today we decided to hold auditions for a male actor to rap for our music video. This is because the original rapper will no longer be the main role as he is in university. We were looking for a street/hood type of boy. The other actor we are holding auditions for will be playing a 'nerdy' role that will be dragged around Westfield for the day with his cousin.

We have chosen to choose an actor in our college as he has the look we are aiming for. However, the other actor who we were thinking of being a rapper will now be playing the role as the nerdy cousin. By auditioning people for the role allowed us to have all the roles assigned to each person.

Role Allocations (Meeting)

Today my group arranged a meeting to decide and to set tasks that were allocated to each other. It was decided that Kulsoom was allocated to draw the story board, with me and Jessica’s input of ideas. The ideas would be the camera shots and how long the shot was taken for (time). This is important as the storyboard allows us to have a visual plan of how our music video will be set out.

Hannah was allocated to do the risk assessment and production sheet. This task is very important, as in order to have the location we want the video to be set in. We have to hand in a letter of risk assessment to be allowed to film as the location is private property.

Jessica was allocated to write a script and recce. This is also a very important aspect, it allows us, as a group to be organised during the actual filming of the music video. It also provides us with keen information of the roles/the words they say and how the music video is set out.

These allocations will impact the music video hugely, as without all these aspects the music video will not work and be organised.
